DESCRIPTION

The city of Amsterdam is one of the most liberal and tolerant cities in Europe, where freedom of worship is a unique characteristic that is widely accepted by its inhabitants. During the 16th and 17th centuries Amsterdam became the Mokum (meaning “safe place” in Yiddish) of the Jewish community. In this 2-hour tour, our expert guide from 360 Amsterdam will relate the past of a city that suffered the horrors of World War II, through the eyes of Anne Frank. The tour shows the old Jewish Quarter to the Anne Frank House, which will make you vividly, feel emotions of those difficult days under German occupation.

1940-1945

Holland was occupied by Germany between 1940 and 1945 and the effects were brutal not only for the Jewish community but for all the inhabitants who lived in Amsterdam. Anne Frank became a symbol of Nazi barbarism. Discover the story about her diary and how it was published thanks to her father Otto Frank.
Find out why the Dutch tried to coexist with the German army and how they behaved towards the Jews of Amsterdam, as in the case of Anne Frank.
You will discover numerous events, such as “The strike of February 1941” or “The winter of famine of 1944 – 1945”.

ROUTE

This guided tour of the Jewish Quarter highlights essential buildings such as the Portuguese Synagogue, the Hollandsche Schouwburg Museum and the central office of the Jewish Council. Discover the hiding places that the Dutch resistance provided to Jewish families like Anne Frank’s family. Walk through monuments and buildings still marked by the traces of war. Our professional guides will bring history to life and narrate how citizens behaved during the occupation, and how things unfolded during these times of terror.

Our guide Wybe Rood was amazing !!!

This tour was heart-warming and unforgettable thanx to our guide Wybe Rood. He made the story of Anne Frank so special by adding some personal touches to the tour. Moreover, at some points during the tour he cried together with us, the group. For me it’s always especially important when I see that the guide lives the story himself/herself, and it seemed like Wybe did. It was special, and I’d do it again.

Book this with Talia the Storyteller!

We had one day in Amsterdam and booked this walking tour…. a smart, lucky choice. Talia was our Guide, and we were very glad she was. She knew the history of the Jewish quarter, and all that led up to those eight people hidden away in Anne Frank’s ‘s hideaway. Talia wove in her family’s personal experiences from the same time… and knew the answers to all our questions. Hey Talia – we could use you in Vancouver for our tours…!!!

Get a sense for the history of Amsterdam, its people, and the Frank family

This walking tour is a must for anyone who wants a quick history of Amsterdam, particularly during WWII and the years leading up to it. Our guide, Wybe (Daniel), added very personal yet relevant information to his telling of the story of Amsterdam and Anne Frank and her family. I was pleased beyond my expectations with the plethora of information that Wybe shared with us. Our stop at the Auschwitz Monument was particularly moving. This was definitely a very worthwhile tour and I would not hesitate to repeat the tour at some time in the future.

Perfect Walking Tour

This is an excellent tour to take especially if you have never been to Amsterdam and if you have a woman named Talia you are especially lucky. She was an excellent tour guide providing enough information to give you a really good idea of what was going on at that point in time in Amsterdam but also not droning on about one topic at a time. She was very helpful with answering all of our questions both historic and current. She was excellent at navigating the best places to give you information and when to let you soak in the history for your self.
